Bubble Rivals 1st Update!


Hello, dear Bubble Rival enthusiast!

After some months since the Global Game Jam I showcase Bubble Rivals in a couple of local Game Shows and due to positive feedback I decided to add some new stuff and re balance the game mechanics.

So what's new?:
- Added 2 new scoring objects. A fast ball that is worth 3 points and a slow heavy ball that is worth 5 points.
- Added an instructions manual that summarizes the game's objective and the functionality of the river items.
- The game now has an ending sequence instead of an abrupt cut when a match is over.
- A match can no longer end in a tie that automatically sets Player 2 as the winner, but instead will continue until the first goal scored to break the tie! It's basically a golden goal rule.
- The match can now be paused and resumed! Yeah, I forgot about it during the game jam.
- The game's menu can now be navigated with a controller or keyboard.
- And... that's pretty much it. So not much actual new stuff, but the re balance did change game play quite a bit.

What has been re balanced?
Players:
- Players now have a limit on how many bubbles can they have on the field at a given time, being currently 3 bubbles on the field per player.
- Increased stun time so getting hit by a bomb is more punishing now.

Bubbles:
- Bubbles now have a max speed. So no more bubbles skipping the wall collider and going to oblivion.
- There is now a small UI text on top of the bubble that shows how many points a bubble is worth on score.
- Bubbles now have a max capacity on how many objects they can carry, which is currently up to 3 items.
- Bubbles now have a color that indicates which player they belong to.
- Bubbles now have a life span that runs out when they move too slowly and will automatically pop after a few seconds. Bubbles that hold items won't run out of life span.

Items:
- They now have a weight value. All items have a weight of 1, except for the Heavy Score Ball which weights 3 and occupies a whole bubble by itself.
- Adjusted slightly the speed of some items.
- Adjusted slightly the odds of item spawning.

Oh, and I almost forgot. Up to 4 players can now join in a Bubble Rivals match! It works in a very simplistic wait currently. As players join they will spawn in one side or the other until all 4 players are connected. So it will always be a match where Player 1 and 3 face off against Player 2 and 4. If a forth player does not join, you can play in a 2v1 fashion. Finally, the match will only start once at least 2 players have join and set as "Ready", so make sure everyone joins in before pushing the Start button twice.

On a side note, most team members have left the project to continue with their own personal projects and goals once the game jam ended, so it's just me working on the project right now. The next update will probably focus on trying new ideas out for potential new items that can spice up the gameplay even more.
